Should i wear goalie knee pads

Top strap is done tight and the pads don't move. Ive been using warrior knee pads, i tape the lower strap and use a string up to my suspenders which keeps them from falling down.

I also wear socks over to stop them catching. Very happy with them! I started with some Vaughn Velocity's at first, they were thinned and needed for a tighter knee lock I had on new pads I was trying out.

It was my first set of pads without thigh protection, and knew I needed something. They were ok, but did end up shifting down throughout a game only wearing dry-fit pants. I also didn't like how my knee landed in them, often times it got "caught" on something, and would dig in. I knew these were better than taking a puck to the knee done that too many times prior , but it wasn't comfortable.

I ended up getting a set of the Brian's knee pads on eBay for a slight discount, and I love them. They have better padding on the landing area, and the velcro fits them tight enough not to need tape or a garter though I did consider that when looking for new ones. They work well in a semi-open knee lock of Genetik Pro 1s, and a very open set of Genetik Pro 3s.

I do run a wrap of tape around the bottom. So when I bought these, it just felt normal to tape these too. I've worn them too without tape ran out and had no issues. I don't wear full leg spandex. I wear the spandex that go to top of knee and have the velcro for socks. I wear Bauer or whatever thin socks used to call them the Reebok Edge socks then put the knee pads on top.

The added material under them from the socks keeps them from sliding. Since the socks are pretty much the same as spandex - but loose - I don't have any overheating issues.

I tested the old Maltese ones too. Great concept, but the design didn't stay up. Hopefully the Eco Pro team can improve that design. I'd hate to ruin all of my compression pants so maybe instead of going pads under pants I could go pads over pants and then slide a compression sleeve over the knee pads. Hahahaha stfu. I am not worried about my knees, yet. I wear Bauer sweats, Passau kneepads on top and then an XL set of UA that i got cheap over the top in lieu of socks to keep the knee guards in check. Despite the size of the Passau's the UA isn't significantly permanently stretched out even after a few years use , but stretching the UA out over the knee pads does mean that it does get blown seams where it contacts the knee lock, holes where velcro snags or pucks hit etc.

I think I tried without once and I hated the way my knees felt. It was almost like my kneecaps were being twisted when I dropped down. Although, I am glad to have them in case I do ever get hit, which I never do for some reason. I wear PAW knee pads with the garter belt. Nothing over them. I wear short under armor shorts and long under armor socks so the knee area is bare underneath the kneepads.

Out of the packaging - looked and felt a little bulky. Stiff, to be expected.

Wore them around the house for a few minutes, not near as cumbersome as they look. Got my first game in with them. At first was worried about extra bulk in the landing gear, so I took out one layer of foam in the knee wings. Initially it felt a little tall, but after five minutes of wearing them, they were noticeably there but did not interfere in any way.

Great protection! The wrap around the inside of the knee really helps take the impact from shots that squeak through the five hole and on tips. I wore them under my hockey socks, but could probably get by with wearing them over them as well. Adds an extra step to getting dressed, but much better than having a shattered knee cap or shredded tendon or ligament in the knee.

Over the winter season, I took a puck off of the kneecap stock thigh guards on Vaughn V5 left a very small gap which took me out of action for a few weeks and I then started the search for a better solution. I ended up finding a good amount of threads on various goalie forms recommending the PAW PKP Knee Pads and after some additional research and comparison of what was also out there on the market I made the decision to reach out to Sara for a solution.

After a very quick response from Sara and some back and forth on the options I ended up placing an order for the PKP 's adding the viscoelastic gel and an additional velcro tab to attach to my pants if they did end up slipping.

Yes, there is a wait to have them made but I knew that going into the process as they are a custom product! Sara's estimate was bang-on and they arrived about a week earlier than initially anticipated tracked service with the number provided when she completed them.

As for the product itself: Fit - absolutely perfect! They felt a little bulky at first since I have never used a stand alone knee pad, but I managed to get used to them after two sessions and now feel completely natural. Slippage - absolutely none. It may have something to do with the 'classic' style socks I wear, but the nash liner is super-grippy and they hold in place without needing the extra tab to the pants or needing to tighten them enough to cut off circulation!

Protection - I have taken multiple shots both direct on the face and on the sides and I did not feel a thing! After taking the direct shot previously I was hesitant the first couple of times back on the ice, but these have helped me to overcome that and I no longer worry about shots to the knees or thighs. Comfort - I would highly recommend adding the viscoelastic gel to these.

It does cause a slight increase in the weight, but it is negligible and the added 'landing' comfort is well worth it! Quality - comparable or better to my Vaughn 'pro custom' equipment.

Both craftsmanship and materials are top notch and after approximately 40 sessions so far there are no signs of wear and tear. Overall - if you are in the market for a quality product, I would highly recommend reaching out to Sara to find a custom solution for you that will last for years to come!
