She no longer rests in All Saint's. She does too rest in All Saints. I just went tonight but she is the only one in the cemetery that has absolutely no grass at all on her grave. Top Ads. Finally, we came across All Saints Church and knew we were in the right place when we saw the following sign: All Saints Church boasts ideal conditions for a haunting: an old cemetery, Spanish Moss hanging in the trees, and a rich urban legend.
Allard Flagg, at The Hermitage plantation. Alice fell in love with someone her brother did not approve of. The man proposed to Alice and gave her a ring, which she wore around her neck on a ribbon to avoid her brother's suspicion. Although he was unaware of his sister's engagement, Dr. Flagg made Alice attend school in Charleston in the hopes she would forget about the young man.
It was in Charleston that Alice succumbed to what many believe now was malaria. She was brought back home to the family home in Murrells Inlet. Later that night, word went from the school that Alice had taken sick and should be sent to her home in Murrells Inlet.
When her brother received the word, he left at once in his carriage, but the way was long and arduous. Four days later he reached Charleston. He found Alice incredibly fatigued, with no strength to even nod to him. Her stamina had evaporated, and her nerves seemed in knots. He carried her to his carriage, and one of her friends packed her favorite dress for the journey. It was another four-day trip back home. The jostling and jolting as the carriage convulsed and bumped on the uneven roadway and across several rivers by ferry heightened Alice's nervousness.
When she reached home, she was substantially weakened and soon lapsed into a coma and died. Alice Flagg was dressed in her favorite dress for her funeral at All Saints Church, but her engagement ring had been taken away.
Her corpse wasn't one of beauty. Her waxy face clearly showed the pain of losing her true love, and then, her life. Myriad friends and relatives say they have seen Alice's apparition at her home, The Hermitage at Murrells Inlet, and in the burial ground at All Saints Waccamaw Episcopal churchyard. It is believed that she comes back to search for her lost engagement ring. When a group of young people stood at the gravesite of Alice Flagg, a ring suddenly flew off the finger of one of the girls.
It took the group much of the day to locate the ring, which was treasured. More famous haunts are scattered around the Palmetto State. During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date. Regardless of why they come, they're all in search of one person: Alice Flagg. In approximately the mid s Alice was taken in by her brother who owned an estate near Murrells Inlet. Their parents had died and the teen came under the care of her older sibling.
Her brother disapproved of the young man's social stature so the two dated in secret. At some point Alice accepted a ring from her suitor and she kept it hidden from her brother on a ribbon tied around her neck. So her sent her off to live in Charleston where some say she attended a boarding school. It was there that she became ill.
